Krandall- Get crackin!! Nows a perfect time to do it!!

BAD BIRD- Its pretty cool! I havent decided if i want to paint it anything though. Any ideas??

So far i think maybe just paint the rims and then some white wall tires.

NO chopping of the roof either for sure!

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh, we're all just sitting around here waiting for a YouTube link...

Ohhhhhh....

Well look what the cat drug in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrcsKRRTVA8 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrcsKRRTVA8)

For the record, it was probably Psycho, as my cat is much too lazy and also a fat pile of lose.  When put in a cardboard box with a live mouse, there was no interaction whatsoever.

But that's beside the point.  The point is:

Ohhhhhhh!!!  :P

More progress this weekend.. got done what i was hoping to.
Picked up my new bumper from Mike (BAD BIRD) cant beat the price!! Thanks again!!
The next plan is to work on the box.. build the frame for the lower storage area and do some body work to it also.

I used a wire brush and a drill to scuff and clean off the frame.. Painted it with a brush wiith some "Chassis Saver" paint. Also cleaned the axle so that can get a fresh coat of paint later this summer.

Otherside of the frame.
I still need to move the battery to the box of the truck to free up some space.

Just ordered the paint and pearl tonight

Hot Road Flatz colors
-1 Gallon of Hot Road Black
-1 Quart of Classic White

AND from www.paintwithpearls.com
-25 Gram Bag of White Shimmer Ghost Pearl

Woo Hoo! Getting closer!! Still shooting for May 1st to have the majority of it finished.
Also I have been grinding some minor rust on the box of the truck. Me and my dad started to smear some bondo on the sides of it to fill in dents and little rust holes. Started the roll pan tonight also, should have that close to put on tomorrow night.

Had an extra S in your link.  Took me to a weird site.

Anywho, hells yeah!  They got some crazy stuff there.  That "thermochromic" paint sounds pretty sweet.  Changes color with the temperature.  Gonna have to find something to do with that...  Maybe a fiberglass sub box in the Bimmer!

I'm pretty sure the "before pearls/after pearls" picture on their main page is a racing kart body, too!

Hillbilly les mixing the goods
(http://i727.photobucket.com/albums/ww272/NCHKustoms/1964%20Ford%20F-100/truckbox007.jpg)
The side of the box ground down and ready for some bondo to fill the rust. (not the correct way, but its cheap and it works, so deal)
The other side full of bondo and ready for a 2nd coat. Notice the roll pan being formed too!!
Shot of the rear.. there is a little wiggle in the roll pan.. that will be fixed.
Another of the roll pan, all the ground areas need some work.. a little bondo and smoothing and were set!
Shot of the rear. The box it sitting upside down. Should look awesome! :batman:

this is the progress from after this weekend.

This is after lots of hours of body work..
as you can see there is still spots of bondo that could use some smoothing.
The body work on the box was mainly done by my dad. He said hed do it. Sounds good to me! Hes more of a ninja than i am.
Better shot of the rear. Notice there is no body likes or seams of any sort. All shaved. No tailgate handle either :)
Side all smooth.
A little left.
Nicely rounded corners. With sweet tailights.
I added in some frame work for the lower part of the bed. This is the storage area. There will eventually be another floor above this so i can haul my mini bike.
All sanded and ready for primer though.
Title: Re: '64 Ford F100
Post by: NCHKustoms on April 20, 2010, 09:35:51 PM
Well progress is being made.. still.. haha
The box is about 95% ready for the final coat of primer. The cab and front fenders are ground down and some bondo has been applied. Should start that more tomorrow. Also started stripping all the crappy paint off the hood to start over on it. It has some dents that need to be hammered out and smoothened. Things are looking good to having it painted by this upcoming Sunday.. as long as the paint shows up!! GaaHH!

Thanks pchop!

Well i got a few new additions to the motor now.. since the burnout contest.. the timing chain stretched and the water pump went out on me.. SOoo i picked up a new Edelbrock waterpump.. JEGS timing gear set.. some Ford Racing plug wires.. spark plugs.. and an oil change! Just got the new parts on it tonight.. started it up and the gears sound sweet! I got the noisy ones so it sounds like a supercharger! Just have a few minor adjustments and finish putting hoses and stuff on and i should be ready to roll!

My new JEGS noisy timing gear set!!
The old timing gears were old.. the chain stretched during the burnout contest so it wouldnt idle anymore.
These sound like a whining supercharger!! Haha
(http://i727.photobucket.com/albums/ww272/NCHKustoms/1964%20Ford%20F-100/truck092.jpg)
New Edelbrock waterpump that replaced the old one that fried in the burnout contest.

Was it spendy?  I'm gonna have to do the water pump on that 302 when I get it.  Could do the timing gears as well.  That seems pretty sweet.  Gotta hear 'em for myself.

Nicely done brother!
Title: Re: '64 Ford F100
Post by: NCHKustoms on June 04, 2010, 05:48:04 PM
waterpump.. $160
timing gears.. $160
gaskets.. $30
plugs and wires..$60
misc bolts.. $7

total.. $417

the fun i get to have driving it.. $ priceless!!

You could get a stock waterpump for $35-40 ish tho and a regular timing gear and chain set for like $30, but this is way cooler!

So what's the difference between a "stock" one and the one you got?  I'm guessing just by looking at it that it's aluminum instead of steel.

do you have a four barrel on that because i have a new holley 600cfm on my truck and its just too much for my engine
Title: Re: '64 Ford F100
Post by: NCHKustoms on June 06, 2010, 02:21:39 AM
Yeah the only difference looks wise is its aluminum.. it says its supposed to help cooling too and has more flow.. but idk well see. seemed to do good on the porkys run tonight tho

tink- nah i just have a 2 barrel 600 holley on it.. i have a 4 barrel intake for it.. just need to get a carb if i can get one cheap enough. haha

I HATE that  engine now.  I fought with the timing cover trying to put it back on.  Who would of thought that you would darn near have to take the oil pan off to fit it back in place.  I thought these sbc's were gods gift the the motorhead.  At least on a sbf you just take for bolts out of the oil pan and thats it you dont even have to replace the water pump gaskets on a ford.  What the heck?

yeah Its call pertronixs or how ever you spell it. Malllory also makes one its take place of the points.  There pretty dependable.  HEI's down fall is the you still have a ingition control module to deal on when they burn out.  Mallory and pertronixs both just require 2 wires power and ground.  I think the best way to go if you want electronic

Hey Ry-deezy.  Got a sale flyer at Harbor Freight the other day when I was there.  Found a coupon for a 12v air compressor kit.

http://www.harborfreight.com/12-volt-100-psi-high-volume-air-compressor-96068.html

With the coupon it's $19.99.  Figured it'd be a cheap alternative to the one you got on that air horn setup.  All you'd have to do is cut off the cigarette adaptor and just wire it into the switch you got.  Maybe mount it in the box and hook the air line up to the bulk tank in the back?  Guessing it'd take a little bit to fill the thing up, but you'd have a longer blast from the train.

Let me know if interested.

I'm confused.  You quoted me saying something about riding with Ryan.  But then said "brakes in the truck".  I was assuming you meant Ryan's truck.  Referencing the Dodge maybe?  If so, brakes aren't the first thing on the list.  Don't really need 'em when the tranny doesn't shift out of 2nd.   The BEAST needs some loving all over.  Perhaps even some triple-bypass surgery.

no need for steeenkin gussets on that rear.. It was just the bottom of that bar that wasn't welded, so it just folded.

Post by: NCHKustoms on June 05, 2011, 10:14:54 PM
no that one is a single core. i thought it would work being aluminum and all.. but theres just not enough fluids in there!  :help:

going to add some usset anyways, should take maybe 20 minutes to fab up somethin!

Put on my 100 $ oil filter today.. re-painted the engine ford blue and also repainted my pipes white

What day(s) are you going?  There's a sweet airshow kinda thing going down in Blaine this weekend and Toni only has one day off this weekend (Saturday).  We're both thinking we'll go check out planes on Saturday morning.  Probably won't be an all day long affair, tho.  We'll see.  Need a place to crash?  Let me know.  Maybe you could stay Saturday night and we could go together Sunday?  Just throwing it out there.  Be somebody.

Well i have my new motor all put together! its a 1989 ish Mustang 5.0 roller motor.. The old motor is out of the truck finally.. took off the oil pan.. metal chunks galore!! WOW!! And the oil pump shaft is spun like a pretzel!! No good! I need to find a pressure washer to use before i toss the new motor in..  and i also have a new torque converter to pick up tomorrow

ANNND My secret projects are coming along quite nicely!! Ill get some pics after its all put together..

On a bad note.. looked at the drive shaft.. after that flew out.. its pretty banged up.. and the yoke in the 3rd member may or may not be good.. ill need a closer look. But one of the clamps that hold the U-joint in place is ripped in half and the other is bent

All in all i was shooting to have it done by Saturday for the Oglivie tower show.. not lookin good. NEW goal is next wednessay or thursday!! WOO!

Yaaaa i didnt quite make it to HWY 95  :( the temp started to climb so i just shut it off.. rose to 215-220 sitting there so it got towed. Took off the intake and heads today to try and figure out what went wrong. The head gaskets seemed to be holding.. but we are thinking maybe the heads are bad? SO. What im gonna do now is take the heads off the motor that WAS in there and put them on and see what happens. Fingers crossed. I dont think ill jump on getting it together until mabe next week or so. Going to take a break and get some other 'smaller' projects done  :P But keep your fingers crossed!!

Speaking of Coronet.  How 'bouts we swap donut for donut next time we're together with the cars?  That way there won't be any "doubts" as to whether we did it or not.  And hell, we could toss in a truck *ahem* in the background as well.  Maybe do a little "Three Bros. Chaunce" dount party?

So the funny noise my truck is making.. its the guide plates for the pushrods. They are both rubbing. Eeep! Its not too bad though. Its running good enough to head to Frankensteiners! Woo!
Also.. No overdrive.. Sometime in late October or November, going back to have the tranny pressure tested to see whats up :)

Ah. guide plates makes sense...

Glad that's figured out at least. :)

Bear with me...Since the guide plates don't move, I assume you mean something is rubbing on the guide plates.  It had better be the pushrods!  The pushrods need to be hardened pushrods.  Stock pushrods won't live with guide plates, and the shavings coming off the pushrods are headed to your main bearings.

If you already have that covered, and if the rockers are rubbing on the guide plates, the towers the screw-in studs for the rockers weren't milled enough.  A few early 289 heads already had screw-in studs...but 302/351W heads don't and need to have...uh...0.331 (I think) milled off before you finish drilling and threading the holes for the screw-in studs.  If you only take off .25 there may be a problem.

3rd possibility:  How did you determine the required pushrod length?  With screw-in studs and guideplates, the pushrod length MAY change.  Last thing:  You might reset the lash when the engine is hot.  Sounds gruesome.  Sorry to talk about screwins.

Last minute add-on...maybe you have a partially collapsed lifter or two???  Or is it solid (or solid roller) lifters?

Whew! gettin deep here!

OK, Yeah the pushrods are rubbing the guide plates, they are hardened pushrods also. Wasnt any metal shavings or anything in the oil when i did my first oil change on it so thats good! So hardened pushrods.. should those be ok with a little rubbage? Otherwise what we are thinking is take the guideplates back out and widen em up a milimeter or so. Sooo first step, covered :)

Next thing,,
No rubbing from the rockers for sure! Plenty of room there. These heads i have on it were off a '69 Mustang 302 block. When i got them they had just the push in style studs on them, had them taken out and had some screw in ones put in, that way i could use my roller tip rockers. I think that much is safe too :)

3rd thing..
The pushrod length was determined by putting the heads back on the block and taking a measurement. I cant recall what length that they are, but i do know that the length did change compared to stock.

Ill have to remember all of the above things ya pointed out and talk to Mr. Motor Builder Man when the time comes to fix some stuff :)

Annnnnd its roller lifters

Thanks alot for the input!! Much appreciated!!

Almost there:  If you chose springs that are bigger in diameter than your stock springs (dual springs?) the little pad where the springs hit the heads needs to be machined to match.  Round outer spring but flat inner spring in a ford is usually 1.46" in diameter.  Slightly bigger than stock.  Round outer spring and round inner spring will be in the 1.50's.  Stock diameter may be less than 1.30.  Early heads have small chambers, and you can get good compression.  Buy octane booster by the case.  Big springs sitting on a too-small machined spot might wobble a bit and allow rubbing.

If you do get the early 58CC chambers and get some pinging, here's what I do:  Take each chamber and put an old intake valve in place with a spring/retainer.  Put the tiny rotary grinder tip (tapered) and carefully work off some material next to the intake valve edge to "un-shroud" the intake flow  Don't leave a sharp edge anywhere.  If you carefully make the 8 intakes equally un-shrouded you might end up with a 60cc chamber, less likely to ping.  There are also "fat" head gaskets to allow you to manipulate your chamber volume.  This will really help if you are using bigger than stock valves.  I've also seen that area "spot faced in the machine process to open it up a little.  Stock ford heads have too-small exhaust ports.  The port is shaped like an upside down "L"  The floor is the "short side" and the roof is the long side.  If you port them yourself, take a big off the short side right in the middle of the bend, as much as you want to off the long side, and wider never hurts.  If you have an old head, you can sawzall it apart and see how much iron is around the ports.  If you take off more than .125" anywhere, you need to know where the "thin" spots are.  With stock heads, they'll still be too small, but every little bit helps.
